Hair Length Retention Tricks

This is the knowledge we all need if longer, healthier, and fuller hair is your goal.

Length retention in easy words simply mean: To keep the length of your hair that has grown out of your scalp. Amongst all the things you need to do to achieve this, I will talk about 3 very crucial knowledge we need to have;

1. Cleansing or washing.
2. Hydrating and moisturizing.
3. Finger Detangling + Use of wide tooth combs.

1. Cleansing or Washing
Cleansing your scalp biweekly or at least every three weeks in sections gives your hair the opportunity to breathe and grow. Using nourishing, hair-growth-stimulating products on a dirty scalp is a complete waste of time and money, as these wonderful products won’t be able to reach your scalp to do their job.

Advice:
Don’t make hairstyles that prevent you from washing your scalp as frequently as you should.

2. Hydrating and Moisturizing
Hydrating your hair means allowing it to absorb fluids into its shaft. Washing and steaming help with this process. When our hair is hydrated, it becomes more elastic and less prone to breakage.

Moisturizing has more to do with the surface of your hair. Using products that contain moisturizing ingredients in the right quantity gives your hair the opportunity to tangle less, resulting in less breakage which over a period of time you will be able to see significant hair length retention.
Advice:
Never leave your hair dry no matter what state it is in. Your hair must remain moisturized and hydrated from wash day to wash day.

3. Finger Detangling + Use of Wide-Tooth Combs
A lot of hair can be lost during detangling if not done properly. Before detangling, make sure to apply some products that will help your hair glide easily. For those with longer hair, starting from the ends of your hair makes it much easier when you get to the roots.
Using your fingers for this process is recommended before going in with a wide-tooth comb (if needed). When using a wide-toothed comb, starting from the ends and working your way to the roots is ideal for a faster detangling session. If you’re rushing to take on another task after detangling, it’s not the right time to detangle. I always advise you to detangle your hair when you are completely free and not in a hurry.

Detangling your hair should be a moment of relaxation, not tension. If you’re under any form of pressure while detangling, you’re likely to transfer that stress to your hair. It takes time for hair to grow, so why not relax when handling it?
Advice:
Intentionally create time to detangle your hair with the right products before washing and after washing, this will help preserve your entire hair.
